Hook back plate(hook pattern) is first created by NUCAP of Canada called NRS or the NUCAP RETENTION SYSTEM. The hooks of back plates can provide excellent machenical retention for brake pads, similar with cast iron backing plate and wiremesh welded backing plate. Hook patterns can increase shear strength and pad life, so they are now more and more used in PV brake pad as well as Truck and Trailer brake pads.

POWERTECH develops new NRS hook back plate, which is similar with NUCAP and UTIL hook patterns. After test, the friction material and bi directional hooks become heavily bound and cannot come loose.
